Box for My Trinkets!!
Description
For my group's final project in CRT 222, we were tasked with building a box using dovetail cuts to keep it together.
Process
First, I had to obtain two types of wood, and I chose red oak and birch. I used the red oak for the box's walls and birch for its top and bottom sides. The oak plank was cut into 4 smaller planks, taking care to ensure that two pairs matched in length. I then used a dovetail jig and two drill bits (pin and tail) to make the cuts for the corners of our box.
After that, I cut indents on the top and bottom of my box to insert two pieces of the birch wood to make the box sealed.
Using the band saw, I cut open the box and sanded down everything to make it as smooth and straight as possible.
Finally, I added hinges and a wooden handle to open and close the box.
Reflection
While I'm sad that this is our last project, I think I'm happy with all of the accomplishments I have made in this class. I have greatly expanded my knowledge in wood working, and I even got to learn scary yet fun activities as well. CRT 222 was definitely a valuable course, and I hope to do more projects like these in my free time.
